Mersin International Port (MIP) handled approximately 500,000 TEU containers in the first three months of 2026, single-handedly accounting for 14.8% of Turkey's total container traffic. This performance represents a strong 11.2% growth compared to the same period in 2025.

Strait of Hormuz Effect

Rising security tensions in the Strait of Hormuz accelerated the shift toward Eastern Mediterranean routes. Mersin Port was one of the biggest beneficiaries, with an additional 20-30% increase in commercial activity.

EMH2 Project: 3.6 Million TEU Target

The EMH2 expansion project aims to increase capacity from 2.6 million to 3.6 million TEU, positioning Mersin among the largest container terminals in the Mediterranean.
